In the book "Period," the protagonist receives a call informing him of his lover's death at sea. We later learn through flashbacks that he had denied his love for years, suppressing his identity as a homosexual. The story follows his realization of the significance of his lover in his life and his regret. In the end, he chooses to drown himself in the sea where his lover lies. Despite the painful themes, the author maintains a "light as a feather" tone throughout her writing, which inspires me to use watercolors.
I find that the crystal texture of the watercolor reflects the vulnerability present in the story and has a natural attraction toward women.
The book's graphics mimic the rising sea, symbolizing the protagonist's sense of being drowned by his grief. The typography is inspired by bubbles, and the content page is illustrated with footprints into the sea, while the page numbers bubble up, much like the protagonist’s body in the sea, the dates/months crossed on chapter title pages counts down his death too.
